Harry Garside, an Olympic boxer and positive role model for boys and young men across Australia, is joining the Top Blokes family as our newest ambassador. Known as one of Australia’s top athletes, Harry breaks down barriers around mental health, masculinity, and self-expression. His own journey challenges young men to embrace their true selves, pursue their passions, and prioritise their wellbeing – something that resonates deeply with the Top Blokes values, principles and key messages shared in Top Blokes programs and workshops.
We’re excited to welcome Harry to our ambassador team, which already includes NRL Titans player Kieran Foran, TV personality Tim Robards, and Dr. Justin Coulson, a leading parenting expert.
“Harry Garside embodies everything we stand for at Top Blokes—vulnerability, authenticity, and resilience. His personal journey challenges societal norms and opens doors to honest conversations, something we deeply value,” says Amy Harvison, Head of Programs and Operations at Top Blokes.
“As an elite athlete and passionate mental health advocate, Harry is more than just a role model. He inspires young men to embrace who they are, face their challenges head-on, and seek the support they need. His alignment with our mission of empowering boys to lead healthy and safe lives makes him a perfect fit for our cause. We are honoured to have him as part of the Top Blokes family,” adds Amy.
Speaking on Sunrise
Harry was officially welcomed as a Top Blokes ambassador with his first public appearance for the Foundation on Sunrise on 7.
Harry shared, “I’m such an advocate because I’ve been through it myself. I think there are so many benefits if young people can do more things where they are challenging themselves, building emotional intelligence and emotional literacy… and that’s what Top Blokes is [they are] creating spaces for young people to be themselves.”
“It’s [Top Blokes] all about going into areas where young people are at – whether it be a school or somewhere else – and creating a space where young men can be themselves or find out who they are and start that journey. I think if a world can have more young people exploring themselves or being more themselves, we’ll get better outcomes,” says Harry.
Masculinity, mental health and resilience
Harry recently sat down with two Top Blokes Youth Ambassador Council members, Daniel and Salim. They chatted openly and honestly about masculinity, mental health, and resilience. Filmed as part of a special series coming soon, the discussion reveals Harry’s own personal struggles and triumphs, as well as the tools he believes are crucial for young men today. The boys shared their stories, creating a raw and honest conversation that challenges stereotypes and provides a pathway for young men to understand the power of vulnerability.
Shining a spotlight on Mental Health Awareness Month
As October marks Mental Health Awareness Month, Harry’s ambassadorship comes at a crucial time. Now more than ever, the need to focus on young men’s mental health is paramount. With 75% of suicides in Australia involving males, we’re committed to giving young men the tools to live healthy, connected, and safe lives.
Added Amy, “Harry’s involvement with Top Blokes will help amplify this message across Australia, breaking the silence and stigma around mental health and encouraging young men to speak up and seek support. His presence as a Top Blokes ambassador will undoubtedly inspire countless young men to embrace their vulnerabilities and take action to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing.”
